Marty Gervais launches Available Light: Poems from the South Shore @ Biblioasis, w/ Micheline Maylor + Peter Norman

Dear Windsor! Don't forget to mark the date! Tomorrow night we will be hosting our last in-house event until next Fall. Join us in welcoming poet Micheline Maylor, poet/novelist Peter Norman, and Windsor Poet Laureate Marty Gervais at Biblioasis at 7PM!

Windsor Poet Laureate and publisher of Black Moss Marty Gervais, author of best-selling local history books Rumrummers and Ghost Road, will be launching his brand-new poetry chapbook (and the inaugural publication in our occasional South Detroit Chapbook/Broadside series), AVAILABLE LIGHT: Poems from the South Shore. 2014 Pat Lowther Memorial Award Finalist Micheline Maylor will be launching WHIRR & CLICK (Frontenac, 2014), a collection of vividly rendered lyric poems that delve into the realms of memory with gravity and grace. Peter Norman will be launching his debut novel EMBERTON (Douglas & McIntyre, 2014), a comic gothic thriller featuring an illiterate man who enters the revolving doors of a prestigious dictionary company looking for a job and someone who can finally teach him how to read, and ends up getting far more than he bargained for. Refreshments and snacks will be available. We hope to see you there.

This Week in Books

National Poetry month continues with an event in Halifax tonight, Tuesday April 22, at 6:30 pm. There Invisible Publishing, Literary Press Group, and The League of Canadian Poetry are presenting, for your listening pleasure, an evening of exemplary Canadian poets. Biblioasis' own Richard Norman will be reading from Zero Kelvin, a collection that marries astronomy to poetry. Also appearing are Geordie Miller, launching his collection Re:union, Rachel Lebowitz reading from Cottonopolis, and Sylvia Hamilton with her new collection And I Alone Escaped To Tell You. Stop by Argyle Fine Art, 1559 Barrington Street, Halifax for your literary fix.

Biblioasis is also pleased to announce the return of The Book Doctor Dan Mezza. Bring your antique, rare, and damaged books to the Bibliomanse on Saturday April 26th from 1-4pm for information on restoration and preservation.

Celebrate Poetry Month Early with Zach Wells & Richard Norman!

Dear Haligonians and Dart...mouthians? It's still March, and National Poetry Month is still almost two weeks away, but that ain't no thing to the perennial, ardent supporter of verse, is it? No thing at all. So beat the fashion and join Biblioasis and The Bookmark as we celebrate in style an evening of pints and lyric insights at The Company House on Gottingen for the Halifax Launch of Zachariah Wells's Career Limiting Moves and Richard Norman's Zero Kelvin, @ 6PM tonight!  And speaking of ardent supporters of verse, check out the amazing window display for the event courtesy of The Bookmark below!

Biblioasis in Toronto at the Garrison Tonight!

The readings continue tonight in Toronto as Biblioasis brings you more of the authors you love.

Cynthia Flood, Norm Sibum, Andrew Steinmetz, Lucie Wilk,  Richard Norman, Alexandra Oliver and Mauricio Segura are appearing on the next stop in their tour to bring you readings from their newest books.

Music will be provided by Massey Harris, and our wildly popular t-shirts will be available for purchase.

To make the evening more exciting the purchase of a book will give you the chance to win a limited edition leather-bound copy of David Manson's The Pope's Bookbinder. The drawing for which will take place in November.

So come down to The Garrison at 1197 Dundas St W, and let the words fly and the drinks flow.
